The St. Volodymyr Awards of Recognition
We are considering candidates for awards at this year's festival and are seeking submissions.
This is our community’s opportunity to say “Thank You”!
In 2006, the St. Volodymyr Cultural Association, organizers of the annual Ukrainian Festival in Montreal, launched a process to honour distinguished contributors to the cultural and civic life of the Ukrainian community across Canada, and especially in our own corner - Montreal.
The first recipients of the award received their certificates at the 7th Ukrainian Festival which was held in Parc de l'Ukraine in Rosemount on Saturday, September 9, 2006.
Ivan Kozachok was honoured for his many years of directing Ukrainian choirs in Montreal, including the renowned Moloda Ukrayina youth choir and the men's choir Ukrayina as well as the Church Choir of St. Mary the Protectress Church.
Victor Malarek, who started his life path in Montreal, was honoured for his outstanding work as a journalist, author and activist, most recently in the struggle to eliminate human trafficking. We also honoured Luba Goy, the renowned comedienne, who has graced our Festival with two prior appearances. Victor and Luba were also honorary hosts of the Festival.
Such was the beginning of the St. Volodymyr Cultural Association awards.
We want your input on this. Whom do you see as a distinguished contributor to our cultural and civic life? Please tell us who you believe should be recognized for their contributions and why.
Send us your suggestions by e-mailing info@ukefestmontreal.org
Letters of submission are also welcome at: 3250 Beaubien St. East, Montreal, QC, H1X 3C9
Our awards committee will take all suggestions into consideration in their deliberations and the most worthy candidate or candidates will be announced and honoured on the day of the Festival.
It’s your Festival!
Come and join in the fun. And let’s let our talented and hard-working contributors to the life of the Ukrainian Canadian community know that we notice their work and appreciate them!
