FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Montreal Ukrainian Festival
September 10, 2022
Updates as of September 6th:
More exciting new to share. We are honoured to announce that our headliner will be Oleh Skrypka, legend of Ukrainian rock music, actor, singer, songwriter, leader of the world’s most popular Ukrainian rock band “Vopli Vidoplyasova”. As the band grew in popularity during the early years of Ukraine’s independence in the 90s, their music has a strong connection to the country’s freedom and pride. The festival’s full performer line-up will include over 200 talented performers, singers and dancers who will leave you in awe, showcasing the beauty and originality of the Ukrainian arts. See the full performance schedule on our website.
Luba Kowalchyk, Canadian pop icon and three-time consecutive Juno award winner, has allowed us to use her famous chart-topping song Every time I see your picture for a special Ukrainian tribute presentation at this years’ festival.
Ivanka Siolkowsky, known for making art from bullet holes in fences of the devastatingly ravaged town of Bucha, will be joining us as a special guest for the Alouettes Tailgate Party and Football Game on the 9th and the festival on the 10th. When the war hit, Ivanka decided there was more that she could do on the ground in Ukraine than from Canada, so three days later she was on a plane to Poland where she started assisting unaccompanied minors crossing the border. Little did she show she would spend the better part of 6 months in Ukraine delivering aid and assisting with evacuations from the frontlines.
