Folk icon glass painting workshop
Sunday, September 8 2024, 12pm – 3pm EDT
Glass painting is one of the oldest folk crafts based on the rich artistic traditions of the past centuries. Glass painting reflects the aesthetic tastes of the people and their understanding of the phenomena of the world around them. This technique dates back to the times of Byzantium and Rome and has a long tradition in both professional and folk art.
This is an opportunity to get involved in the art of traditional Ukrainian icons on glass and to replicate its technique and painting. Each program participant will have a unique opportunity to paint their own icon – traditional and original at the same time. We encourage you to come to the workshop with your children (age 8+) or just friends. This is a good opportunity not only to touch art, but also to spend time together as a family and create your own home icon on glass. The glass painting workshop will allow you to feel like not just an artist, but also a creator with a specific “cinematic” feeling, as the peculiarity of the technique is that the picture is painted on the one hand, and perception comes from the other.
At the workshop, participants will: get acquainted with the history and peculiarities of painting on glass in Ukraine; learn to create sketches for creative works, taking into account the peculiarities of this technique; transfer the drawing to glass; paint the picture in this technique; frame the finished picture. Each participant will make their own painting and will be able to decorate the interior or make a wonderful gift to friends or family.
The workshop will last 3 hours.
